After stepping down from their positions as Senior Royals in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to the United States. Initially, the couple stayed at one of Tyler Perry’s estates in Beverly Hills before purchasing their property in Montecito. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle bought the home in June 2020 and moved in by the following month. While there aren’t many pictures surfacing the internet to show the interior, people got a glimpse into their home when the couple conducted meetings and recordings in their offices during the pandemic. A home that offers privacy and a calm environment is an ideal choice for the former Sussex Royals to avoid prying eyes and cameras.

The palatial home is as beautiful as their Frogmore Cottage in the UK, featuring the best amenities and décor. Surrounded by a health-oriented community, let’s take a look inside Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Montecito estate.

A Home For New Beginnings

The home nicknamed The Chateau was previously owned by Russian billionaire and engineer Sergey Grishin. He had purchased the property for $25.3 million in 2009 before selling it to the couple for $14.7 million in 2020. Since the couple is not financed by the Sovereign Grant anymore, they purchased the home independently. Meghan and Harry secured a $9.5 million mortgage to acquire the property, as stated by Harper’s Bazar.

Constructed in 2003, the 7.4-acre compound is tucked away on a gated private street in Montecito. Located 100 miles away from Los Angeles, it has gained popularity for being the destination where many celebrities reside in the paparazzi-free area. The Mediterranean-style home has a 19,000 sq. ft. of living area with a detached guest house that features two bedrooms and a bathroom. Along with the calm climate, the house has a front view of the Ocean with Californian mountains on the other side.

A Home For The Royals

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s home has nine bedrooms and sixteen bathrooms, as noted by Vogue. Inside, the main living area has earth-toned décor and wooden accents. The large living room is centered around a wrap-around bookshelf and stone fireplace near the dining room. The Master Bedroom has a country-style décor with a wooden-beamed ceiling, private balcony, en-suite bathroom, and ivy-colored pergola.

The home is packed with luxury amenities, including a gym, a sauna, library, a room for arcades, a home cinema, and a lift. The entertainment room has a similar theme as the Master Bedroom with wood-paneled ceilings. It features beige couches and a large TV for the young family to sit and enjoy a screening.

While there aren’t a lot of photos publicly posted by the couple, everyone got a peek into their home when the couple worked on their foundation and conducted meetings during the pandemic. Meghan Markle showed off her marvelous office when she launched a special initiative on her 40th birthday. As mentioned by The Sun, she sat at a rustic oak desk on a cream dining room style chair while the other chair had a Hermes blanket draped over it that cost $1,723. Designed with muted tones, the background also had a gorgeous stone fireplace and healing crystal by her desk.

The outdoors features sweeping lawns that are decorated with lush California foliage. The tiered rose gardens, century-old olive trees, and tall Italian cypress trees enhance the estate's greenery. The home is hand-cut in Santa Barbara stone and draped with climbing ivy along the edges of the exterior. The extended area has a children’s cottage and treehouse along the manicured grounds. With an alfresco terrace, the home has a large swimming pool and a full-sized tennis court.

A Home, A Getaway

Since leaving the UK, California has been a getaway for the family to settle in a quiet community undisturbed by the media outlets. The community offers a recluse to the family of four as their neighbors offer them the privacy they had hoped to receive. Along with their children, the couple lives with their two dogs, Guy and Paula.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a long list of famous neighbors around Montecito’s posh neighborhood. Their home is a six-minute drive from Oprah Winfrey’s estate, Promised Land. According to Cosmopolitan, some more notable neighbors include Ellen DeGeneres, Natalie Portman, and Tom Cruise. Gwyneth Paltrow and Ariana Grande also have their homes in the same vicinity. Most renowned for providing utmost privacy, The Chateau has a private road that leads to a long driveway and security.

After staying in the public eye since their marriage in 2018, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have found solace in their Montecito property that promises the peace that the couple needs. With luxuries amenities indoors and beautiful outdoor spaces that offer sweeping views, their coastal hideaway is a perfect place to raise their young family and offer son Archie and daughter Lilibet a secluded childhood.
