Raymond Masao Sawada was born on February 19, 1985 and was a Canadian ice hockey player who played as a winger at the professional level.

According to various reports, Sawada, a Canadian winger who played for the Dallas Stars during the 2008-09 season, suffered a medical emergency while playing a recreational hockey game for the Richmond Cowboys.

Brianne Sameshima, the organizer of the fundraiser, announced with great sorrow and grief that Raymond Sawada had passed away.

As per Doug Patterson, the chairman of the Richmond Sockeyes, Sawada was celebrating his daughter’s birthday before he got ready to play the match. The match was played outside of Vancouver in his hometown.

Raymond Sawada professional career: A journey through the AHL and ECHL

He started playing minor ice hockey with the Richmond Sockeyes of the Pacific International Junior Hockey League and even won a championship with the team in 2003.

He later joined the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League and scored 52 points in 54 games during the 2003-04 season.

Sawada was picked by the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League in the second phase, 52nd overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

After that, he played for the Cornell Big Red men’s ice hockey team for four years and was even co-captain during his final season.

During his time at Cornell, Sawada played 137 games, scored 31 goals, and accumulated 76 points. On March 28, 2008, Sawada signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Stars.

He played his farewell season of professional ice hockey with the Oji Eagles of Asia League Ice Hockey from 2015 to 2016, where he scored 34 points and 13 goals in 33 games.
